The SDSS Sustainability Accelerator (the Sustainability Accelerator) serves as a launchpad for sustainability solutions, turning innovative ideas into transformative and scalable technologies and policies that will substantially improve the quality of human life and our planet. The Sustainability Accelerator is rooted in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and works across the University and with external partners to drive solutions from the lab into the world.

 

This role will be responsible for co-designing the strategy and systems for scaling the Global Sustainability Challenge operations, led by the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability in partnership with educational institutions worldwide. This role will be highly cross-functional and relationship driven, requiring collaboration with stakeholders across Stanford as well as a global slate of partner universities, consortia, companies, and nonprofits.

 

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that require subject matter expertise.
     
  • Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
     
  • Co-develop the necessary strategy, processes, and systems to support a growing body of 1000s of student participants in the Global Sustainability Challenge. Leverage operational best practices and technology tools for efficiency, collaborating with partners as necessary
     
  • Develop student and expert facing knowledge resources and programming, including FAQs, guides, rubrics, templates, briefings, orientation, and office hours, collaborating with experts and partners as needed
     
  • Develop appropriate student communication strategy for key milestones and deadlines
     
  • Lead the operations of the annual Global Sustainability Challenge, including arranging online platform content and program event agendas, engaging participants, judges, and speakers for events
     
  • Collect and monitor student and expert retention and experience metrics and drive improvements.
     
  • Serve as the internal expert on the challenge management platform for all regional administrators and the primary liaison with the vendor.
     
  • Relationship and partner management with existing partners, including universities, nonprofits, and the expert pool.
     
  • Represent the program at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
     
  • May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
     
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
     
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
     
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
     
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals.
     
  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.
     
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
     
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
     
  • Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.
     
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

 

In addition, our preferred qualifications include:

  • Ability to think strategically and understand stakeholder needs
     
  • Demonstrated experience in partner or relationship management roles

The expected pay range for this position is $120,038 to $153,486 per annum.

 

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
