Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Advanced degree in library science with/or successful work experience in a relevant academic or professional discipline, such as a lead role in a university press for at least five years involving a high degree of responsibility and success in both analog and web publishing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deep and continuing understanding and engagement with the range of library operations, but particularly those involving publications communicating information about forms such as: monographic catalogs of special collections; web environments supporting discovery of library holdings and services; and both digital and analog preservation services.
- Demonstrated excellence through experience publishing both print and digital work in academic research setting either as a librarian with editorial responsibilities or as an editor with responsibilities supporting/interacting with research librarians. A degree in librarianship is desired but not required. A degree and/or extensive experience as a managing editor or editor-in-chief in a major research university is required.
- Demonstrated excellence through experience editing longform academic publications (such as monographs, catalogs, and exhibit guides), including interactive scholarly works and related websites
- Demonstrated excellence through experience developing and establishing standards and procedures across a program of publications in digital and traditional formats
- Demonstrated success in coordinating and leading specialists with relevant expertise in web and traditional publishing arenas
- Demonstrated success in engaging with colleagues across the university and beyond in collaborative and constructive fashions
- Successful experience in working with senior executives in developing and pursuing programs and projects in both traditional monograph and web editing efforts
- Experience managing projects, developing policies and guidelines, and driving publishing initiatives across functional lines, and especially seeing complex projects and programs involving publications through from conception to release
- Experience hiring and directing freelancers and vendors
- Ability to interact with internal and/or external developers as well as possession of an existing network of contacts in the academic and library publishing industries
- Evidence of engagement in relevant professional and academic communities
- Familiarity with a variety of content management and delivery systems; drive to maintain and update this familiarity as systems change
- Familiarity with digital storytelling, writing for the web, and usability principles
- Consistent display of excellent verbal and written communications skills, including strong presentation skills
- Knowledge of one or more foreign languages
Physical Requirements*:
- Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasps lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
- Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
- Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

The expected pay range for this position is $98,000 to $120,000 per annum.
