MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Librarian 2: Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and two or more years of relevant experience in a relevant library setting or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Librarian 3: Advanced Degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline with demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and five years of experience in a relevant library setting with evidence of capacity to work at a high level of responsibility or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Deep understanding and engagement with the range of academic/research library operations, trends and practices.
● Evidence of professional contributions and achievement beyond the library may be expected at this rank.
● Demonstrated success in engaging with colleagues across a university setting and beyond in a collaborative and constructive fashion.
● Ability to manage projects and assist in development of policies and drive library initiatives across functional lines.
● Ability to interact with internal or external developers to evaluate and recommend modifications of software, online databases or digital resources. Understanding of software development life cycle and ability to interact effectively with staff engaged in software development.
● Demonstrated success in independently performing complex job functions such as collection management reviews, preparation of major exhibits including digital exhibits, and developing policies for business practices.
● Evidence of engagement in relevant professional or academic communities.
● Consistent display of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities may include:
● Experience applying library and archival descriptive and metadata standards (e.g. Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS); ability to rapidly learn and implement new descriptive practices adopted by the department and/or Stanford Libraries
● Familiarity with archival collection management systems and discovery platforms.
● Experience with acquisitions or accessioning workflows for archives or special collections.
● Experience with scripting, programming languages, and/or generative AI tools to automate workflows and processes, including data cleaning and/or manipulation.
● Working knowledge of tools and software used to capture, manage, transfer and deliver born-digital records.
● High level of proficiency with computers and desktop applications, including e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Apps.
● Must be able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive or restricted information.
Physical Requirements:
● Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
● Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
● Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
● Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
● Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
● May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold; work extended hours, evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $99,395 - $119,658 per annum for Librarian 2 and $124,864 - $147,970 per annum for Librarian 3. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
