El Centro Chicano y Latino is commemorating its 45th Anniversary in 2023! This milestone has been achieved through the support of a strong and vibrant community committed to activism, scholarship, and social justice.

El Centro Chicano y Latino (El Centro) seeks a qualified applicant to fill the Project Pipeline Manager position, which works collaboratively to build a community that provides students with a sense of belonging, identity affirmation, purpose, empowerment, and leadership development.

El Centro builds community among Chicana/o/x/e and Latina/o/x/e students, faculty, staff and alumni, and fosters greater understanding and awareness throughout the Stanford community of the Chicana/o/x/e and Latina/o/x/e experience in America and globally. El Centro works to ensure the personal and academic success of all students, especially students who are from immigrant backgrounds, are the first in their family to attend college, or are from underrepresented ethnicities or other marginalized identities.

JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Associate Dean & Director of El Centro Chicano y Latino, the Project Pipeline Manager administers, implements and interprets university and department policies and procedures. The Project Pipeline Project Manager identifies, clarifies, and resolves highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.

The Pipeline Project Manager is instrumental in leading first-year experience initiatives aimed at supporting frosh, transfer, and new students to acclimate and thrive at Stanford.  

CORE DUTIES

    • Lead first-year experience initiatives which includes oversight and implementation of programming such as the Montoya Scholars Program and the Chicanx/Latinx New Student Orientation.
    • Manage assigned initiatives and serve as part of El Centro’s leadership team to help
        • improve the design of the 3-quarter plan of events and workshops currently included with the Montoya Scholars Program focusing on transfer and frosh transition to Stanford.
        • design and expand the Montoya Scholars Program to include an additional curriculum focused on promoting undergraduate research experience and graduate and professional school pathways that include a community-based focus.  
        • improve the existing Honors Thesis Mentorship Program and create a corollary program targeting juniors and seniors and focused on supporting undergraduate research and readiness for graduate and professional school. 
        • improve the design of graduate student mentoring training sessions. 
    • Plan, coordinate and support all events and workshops for Montoya Scholars and other assigned programs, including contacting speakers, space reservations, catering, information- sharing, and advertising of events to program participants. 
    • Respond to correspondence and questions from students relating to Montoya Scholars Program and provide student interventions as needed. 
    • Create and design assessment tools to evaluate all aspects of the current and developing Montoya Scholars Program performance, student needs, academic progress, program surveys, and alumni progress.
    • Maintain online course materials and scheduling information for the Frosh Scholars Program 1-unit course for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters on the University’s Canvas site. 
    • Assist the Associate Director with undergraduate and graduate student mentoring matches, match protocols, and the payment of mentor stipends to graduate student mentors. 
    • May provide oversight with the administration of financial processes such as financial reimbursements, data entry, reviewing terms and conditions regarding contracts, understanding vendor requirements, and following up and resolving issues.
    • Train and supervise student employees and volunteers on program development, management, execution, and evaluation for first-year experience programs.
    • Maintain a physical presence in El Centro Chicano y Latino and cultivate campus spaces for community building.  Responsible for supporting the daily operation of Center space inclusive of all meeting rooms, computer cluster, storage area, and offices.
    • Serve as team leader/member for Admit Weekend, Nuestra Graduación, Family Weekend, and Reunion Homecoming.
    • Serve as a member of the El Centro’s Advisory Board to support fundraising, advocacy, and overall strategic direction of the Center.
    • Work with Directors to support inter-departmental collaborations and campus partner outreach.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Preferred: Master’s degree and 2+ years of experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Advanced written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information with internal and external audiences, campus partners, various constituents (faculty, staff, alumni, students), and with all levels of management.
    • Knowledge of issues relevant to Chicana/o/x/e and Latina/o/x/e identity and history, social justice issues, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a higher education setting.
    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Program development and/or program management experience.
    • Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with individuals and groups from various identities, cultures and backgrounds.
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Experience with the development and use of assessment and evaluation tools, instructional and curriculum design activities.
    • Experience working with low-income/first-generation and underrepresented students.
    • Strong computer and technology skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
    • Advanced customer service skills.
    • Understanding of and ability to process financial transactions.
    • Ability to ensure compliance with external regulations and legal, financial, and University policies.
    • Preferred:
          • Supervisory experience and/or demonstrated ability to manage, train, and mentor others’ personal or professional development. 
          • Work experience with an academic support program, planning student programming and/or other administrative work in a higher education environment, preferably in the areas of student success, undergraduate research, and graduate and professional school preparation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Frequently sit and perform desk-based computer tasks.
    • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS & COVID POLICY

    • The University requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination prior to their start date, unless granted a medical or religious accommodation.
    • This is a hybrid position which requires on-campus work at least 3 days a week.
    • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed.

The expected pay range for this position is $69,100 to $90,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
