MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
● Advanced degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline
● Demonstrated understanding of academic libraries and archives and the workings of a research university, or a combination of education and relevant experience
● Bachelor’s degree in music preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Experience working in a sound archive or extensive experience with media archival practice
● Understanding of historic media production techniques
● Experience applying media preservation standards and archival description standards to diverse media collections
● Experience with ArchivesSpace or similar software
● Ability to create archival finding aids to accepted standards, including DACS, according to local policies and procedures
● Experience with MARC and ability to create bibliographic records according to RDA using Library of Congress subject headings
● Experience with MODS and digital object descriptive practices
Other Relevant Experience and Skills:
● Knowledge of classical music, opera, jazz, and/or experience with a range of musical genres
● Experience with notated music
● Ability to complete projects on-time and on-budget
● Familiarity with archival engagement by humanities researchers at the university level
● Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
● Effective oral and in written communication skills
● Flexibility and adaptability; ability to think creatively
● Experience working on a small team in collaboration with librarians and paraprofessionals
● High level of proficiency with computers and desktop applications, including Microsoft
● Office, Google Apps, Trello, MarcEdit, Oxygen, and OpenRefine
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
● Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
● Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasps lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file
paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
● Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
● Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
● Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position at the Librarian 1 level is $76,000 to $92,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
