CESTA Research & Programs Manager - Hybrid Opportunity
The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 24 interdisciplinary programs. Department/Program Description:
Since its founding in 1980, theStanford Humanities Center (The Center)has been sponsoring advanced research into the historical, philosophical, literary, artistic, and cultural dimensions of the human experience. It is an independent research center reporting to the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences. The Center's annual fellows,international visitors, research workshops, and annual public events strengthen the intellectual and creative life of the university and foster innovative and interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching. The internationally renowned Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA), recently restructured to become part of the Humanities Center, embraces emerging digital methodologies and tools to complement existing traditional research methods of analysis and interpretation.
CESTA’s interdisciplinary research projects explore places, global spaces, texts, textual artefacts, data visualization, digital curation, preservation and display, linked data and interoperability, and sustainability. As a scholarly community, CESTA supports and encourages cutting-edge work across the humanities and the interpretative social sciences.
Through its major research projects, fellowship and assistantship programs, seminars, workshops and informal initiatives, CESTA is dedicated to nurturing, training and professionalizing scholars of the future from a variety of disciplines, who will learn how to ask and answer data-driven questions focused on cultural, environmental, historical, social, and textual issues. Together, the Stanford Humanities Center and CESTA serve as the hub for an international network of fellows, visiting scholars, students, and alumni.
Position Summary: The Stanford Humanities Center (SHC) is seeking to hire an experienced and highly motivated CESTA Research & Programs Manager who will be a member of the SHC staff reporting to the Associate Director and who will work under the general supervision of the CESTA Faculty Director. The CESTA Research & Programs Manager will manage and support administrative activities for CESTA, including student research engagement programs, finance, human resources, Graduate Financial Services, student aid, events and facilities.This is a two (2) year, fixed-term, benefits-eligible position that begins on the start date and may be renewable in the future based on programmatic need and funding availability.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, motivated individual with experience in higher education administration, capable of administering a wide array of programs and activities. Strong planning and execution skills are critical for this position, coupled with excellent communications skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. This position will administer CESTA’s programs that serve undergraduate and graduate students. Administering these programs entails supporting the Faculty Director, faculty, students, and labs, as needed, including the maintenance and updating of program and research records, creating postdoctoral and graduate student appointments, visa processing, managing building access and lab technology equipment.
This is a 100% FTE, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

CORE DUTIES INCLUDE:
o Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
o Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate andevaluatealternativesolutionsand/orrecommendationstoachievethegoalsofthe program or function.
o Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
o Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit, or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
o Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
o Participate in development of budgets, monitor, submit, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine budget.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’sdegreeandtwo yearsofrelevantexperienceorcombinationofeducation,training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.
• MA in a humanities discipline is strongly preferred and 2+ years of relevant experience in higher education; digital/digital humanities research skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Constantly performs desk-based computer tasks.
• Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally use a telephone.
• Rarely, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
The expected pay range for this position is $88,861.00 to $102,251.00 per annum.
