Instructions for applying:

To promote equity and inclusivity, we are implementing a “blind” evaluation in the initial steps of our process. Please complete the online application fully and submit exactly three documents as described below. In labeling these documents, please create a candidate code as a string of four letters: the last two letters of your first name, followed by the first two letters of your last name. For example, the string of letters Joseph Biden would provide a candidate code of: PHBI. The required documents are:

  • Your C.V. This document need not be de-identified. Label this document “Code CV” (example: PHBI CV).
  • A syllabus from one of the courses you have taught as a primary instructor. This document need not be de-identified. Label this document “Code Syllabus” (example: PHBI Syllabus).
  • A file with your responses to the written interview questions, below. Ensure that you remove your name, email address, physical address, phone numbers, and all other identifying information, including names of institutions which you’ve attended or worked for, names of faculty, etc. Include your candidate code and the title of the position in the header of each page of your document. Label this document “Code Questions” (example: PHBI Questions).

Written interview questions:

  • Number of years of experience you have as a primary instructor - someone responsible for designing and delivering a course - and whether your experience was acquired at a teaching-focused institution, a research-focused institution, or a combination of both
  • A list of 2-3 courses you designed and delivered as a primary instructor demonstrating the range of your teaching. “Designed” could mean a course created from scratch, or a preexisting course significantly changed (redesigned). Include for each course the course title and a 3-4-sentence description of what was covered.
  • One thing you changed in your course design or teaching practice over the course of teaching, and why you made the change (100-250 words)
  • One piece of advice you would give to an instructor in a research university like Stanford teaching a small seminar-style course for the first time (100-250 words)

Please do not submit a cover letter or any other documentation not requested. They will be discarded without consideration. If a cover letter is required by the application portal, a blank page may be submitted.

Please do not share/email materials with Stanford staff or contact Stanford CTL staff for information about the position. Requests for informational/informal interviews will not be granted.

General questions about the application or interview processes may be addressed to Guy Margard, Executive Search Consultant at gmargard@stanford.edu.

If you forget to upload any of the required documents, you can return to the application portal and add them later, for as long as the position is posted.
