Associate Director of Faculty & Lecturer Programs

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree 
• Two or more years of teaching experience as a primary instructor, that is, someone responsible for the design and delivery of courses 
• Facility in applying relevant research and prior teaching experience to assess needs and develop teaching and learning recommendations for instructors at a research university like Stanford. 
• Facility with current technologies that support teaching and learning
• Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate constructively with campus stakeholders, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, lecturers, faculty, and staff
• Ability to work independently and in teams and take the initiative, especially in new ventures or with ambiguous projects
• Strong writing and oral communication skills
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, especially complex projects with multiple deadlines 
• Fluency in terminology, research, and recommendations around inclusive and equitable pedagogy, interest in learning more, and exhibition of inclusive and equitable behaviors towards CTL and campus colleagues.

• Physical requirements, including:
  • Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing or note taking, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice or voice-assisted technology to present information/communicate with others.
  • On-campus mobility, self-propelled or assisted

 In addition, preferred requirements include:

• Advanced degree (Ph.D./Ed.D. strongly preferred) 
• Degree in STEM / STEM Education
• 3+ years’ experience as a primary instructor in a college or university setting
• Teaching experience at an institution with very high research activity, either as a TA or primary instructor
• Experience with commonly used learning technologies (such as the videoconferencing, polling software, live inking and annotation, and learning management systems)  
• 1-3 years in educational teaching development 
• Experience managing a budget and developing financial plans
• Interest in developing classroom assessment and program evaluation expertise

Written interview questions:

• Number of years of experience you have as a primary instructor - someone responsible for designing and delivering a course - and whether your experience was acquired at a teaching-focused institution, a research-focused institution, or a combination of both
• A list of 2-3 courses you designed and delivered as a primary instructor demonstrating the range of your teaching. “Designed” could mean a course created from scratch, or a preexisting course significantly changed (redesigned). Include for each course the course title and a 3-4-sentence description of what was covered.
• One thing you changed in your course design or teaching practice over the course of teaching, and why you made the change (100-250 words)
• One piece of advice you would give to an instructor in a research university like Stanford teaching a small seminar-style course for the first time (100-250 words)
