Stanford Web Services is seeking a Web Project Manager to guide teams creating websites, tools, and services. In this client-focused position, you will:

  • use your outstanding skills in communication, negotiation, and planning to cultivate positive relationships with a diverse set of clients
  • partner with designers, researchers, and developers to define and execute strategy on projects ranging in complexity from single websites to sophisticated digital products
  • support an efficient agile development process through scrum and development sprints
  • manage JIRA and similar tools for communication and reporting
  • lead retrospectives to support your team with continuous improvement

Stanford Web Services (SWS) is an award-winning agency within Stanford University providing web strategy, user experience, visual design, and web development services to the campus community. SWS is responsible for  more than 3,400 websites and is part of University Information Technology (UIT), a 600-person strong organization supporting 100+ services. SWS is a geographically diverse team spanning much of North America, from Rhode Island to British Columbia.

Minimum requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience in management of projects of moderate size/complexity with limited performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of education and relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

We’re looking for candidates with deep expertise in:

  • Good understanding of content management systems, especially Drupal and WordPress, including the ability to define requirements informed by CMS features and functionality.
  • Clear understanding of web standards and usability methods.

Other abilities include:

  • Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to productively engage and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
  • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.


Certifications and Licenses:

  • Agile Scrum Master and/or Product Owner certified, Project Management Professional (PMP) certified, completion of a Project Management Certificate program, or similar certification in process preferred.
