Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study and 8 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience (System Administrator 3) or 5 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience (System Administrator 2)
Required skills:
- Proven ability in administering multi-user Linux-based systems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with complex multisystem platforms
- Knowledge of installing, managing and configuring servers
- Knowledge of systems administration programming languages, such as Python and shell scripts
- Knowledge of security trends and best practices, as applied to research systems
Desired skills:
- Proven ability in administering Linux cluster systems
- Knowledge of server hardware and management tools (firmware, BMC, IPMI)
- Knowledge of cluster systems administrator management tools (eg. xCAT, ClusterShell)
- Experience with the following technologies:
- Infiniband networks
- Ethernet networks (VLAN, LACP, LLDP)
- PXE, DHCP and DNS
- LDAP and Kerberos
- SQL databases (eg. MySQL)
- Slurm
- Parallel file systems (Lustre)
- Advanced understanding of filesystem permissions and ACLs (NFSv4 and POSIX)
- Knowledge of other programming languages (eg. C, Go, etc)
- Experience with user support in academic or research environments
- Proven documentation skills
Physical Requirements
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
- Often sitting.
- Occasionally kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), grasp forcefully, use a telephone.
