MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- Experience in a similar role in research libraries and the research environment, as well as a subject background with a master’s or PhD degree in public policy, political science, or government information librarianship.
- A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science school or the equivalent in training and experience in understanding and providing information to a user population and/or an advanced graduate degree in the area of government, public policy, or international relations and experience in research libraries.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A minimum of two years of current or recent experience with international, UN, EU, UK, and/or California document collections and services.
- Knowledge of numeric and GIS data and quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis in social science research and instruction.
- Experience in the collection, management, and curation of social science data and documents in digital form.
- Demonstrated information seeking skills, including database and internet searching, and familiarity with social sciences resources in digital formats.
- Demonstrated awareness of current trends in government information content, formats, and dissemination methods.
- Substantial knowledge of and experience in the operations of major academic or research libraries.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collegially with staff at all levels as well as with faculty and students is required. Ability to perform effectively in and contribute successfully to a diverse, multicultural workplace environment is also required.
- Demonstrated experience with current technologies and information systems, and their application to the delivery of library services to students and faculty.
- Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, creative, and innovative attitude.
- Demonstrated skills to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Experience in inter-institutional collaborative efforts to create large collections of documents discoverable and accessible to scholars and students.
Other Relevant Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities May Include:
- Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging social science research methodologies, as evidenced by completion of relevant graduate-level coursework and/or a record of research and original publication(s) in the social sciences.
- Successful experience providing academic library instruction and public services.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, creative, and innovative attitude.

In addition to the above-mentioned knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Five or more years of experience with government document collecting and services in research library settings and/or public policy research, academic library, or related setting with evidence of capacity to work at a higher level of responsibility for a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated potential to make professional accomplishments relevant to the responsibilities of this position. These may include scholarly publications, teaching, and/or professional publications and presentations.
- Experience in the acquisition, management and curation of social science data and participation in data processing workflows.
- Experience with web archiving process and procedures.
Physical Requirements*:
- Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
- Use a telephone, operate hand controls.
- Must be able to push and maneuver a fully loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
- May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold; work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
