MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in a government-relations environment, focusing on federal and/or state level.
- Excellent judgment and knowledge of the political process at the federal and/or state level.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with policymakers.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to diplomatically solve problems and build key relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Software and presentation programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver and/or Keynote.
Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience working for elected officials at the state or local level preferred, including Governors, State Representatives, Mayors or campaigns.
- Strong relationships with state and local government officials.
- Familiarity with State and Local branches of government and relevant organizations. Understanding of state and local policy issues.
- Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
- Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
- Work in partnership with Hoover media and government relations team to build a network of key contacts.
Certifications and Licenses:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
- Occasionally write by hand, use a telephone, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
- Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Ability to travel.
