Minimum Education & Experience Required:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences or related discipline, and minimum of ten years of life science business development, alliance management, licensing or other relevant experience related to drug discovery and commercialization, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum five years’ experience recruiting, training and managing a team of professional business development, alliance management or licensing staff.
  • Successful track record of both solo and team-based strategic alliance deal negotiations involving deal sizes of at least $10M and alliance partners that include large global companies. 
 
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and presentation skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across multiple units of an organization.
  • Advanced leadership skills, political acumen, and demonstrated ability to develop and execute organizational vision.
  • Advanced ability to independently exercise sound judgement and decision making, including ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative and effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated record of substantial achievement in technology transfer and the application of intellectual property principles as they impact institutions of higher education.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills, consensus building skills and proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong collaborative relationships with faculty, build professional business relationships, and represent the university.
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate with and professionally interact with internal constituencies, external business partners and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize, including taking ownership and leadership of multiple time-sensitive and complex projects from inception to timely completion, and developing strategy, implementation and execution of tasks.
  • Demonstrated expertise and advanced knowledge of contract and IP laws, University policies, life science industry trends and related government regulatory requirements.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn applicable business systems. Highly proficient working with IP data information systems, typical academic policies and standard operating procedures while performing the core responsibilities of technology transfer in an academic setting.
