Position Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Work experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, computer science or engineering. Graduate degree or certification is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of software systems design and operating principles including business process mapping, system architecture, business rules development, database design, database administration, and other functions required to create and sustain operations of modern computerized business processes for the university facilities management and utilities industry.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices, especially as related to development of computerized business processes. 
  • Knowledge of university facilities management and utilities business processes including systems for the collection, storage, analysis, and reporting of information about:
  • Ability to manage a complex and often competing set of priorities in a high-pressure, results-oriented environment.
  • Articulate audience motivations, product/program benefits, and recommend key messages. Utilize best practices and direct marketing techniques to reinforce effectiveness.
  • Must possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects of various types at difference stages with emphasis on accuracy and meeting milestones and deadlines.
  • High degree of energy and initiative, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral (including proofreading) and ability to use sound judgment in following policies and procedures, using creativity to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of spreadsheets, database programs, and word processing programs. 
  • Familiarity with infrastructure systems operations such as power, thermal energy, and water system characteristics (flows, pressures, temperatures, etc). Such systems may include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); Distributed Control Systems (DCS); Direct Digital Control (DDC); BAS (Building Automation Systems); and EMCS (Energy Management Control Systems).
  • Familiarity with utility metering and billing systems
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting systems
  • Familiarity with utilities industry instrumentation and controls systems communications protocols such as Modbus, OPC, Lonworks, and BACnet. 
Job Skills and Qualifications:
  • Project Management: Apply sound program management to translate ideas into action and deliver results to stakeholders. Managing stakeholder expectation is a key and desired. Prepare, maintain, and communicate project schedules for the various phases of the work described herein.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Prepare, gain approval, manage and report on project budgets and resources for the various phase of work described herein.
  • Systems integration and processes: The duties of this position require a thorough understanding of business and engineering data generation and flow processes from operating utility systems such as power plants and water wells to utility business processes for metering and billing of services. The individual must be able to understand these complex data types and flows and create processes for the efficient collection, storage, extraction, and use of a very large and complex dataset serving many different SEM functions including actual system operations, metering and billing, and sustainability reporting. The ability to understand and translate these complex business needs and large and complex datasets and devise system architectures and integrate multiple software platforms are key challenges of this position.
  • Process mapping: Interview managers, engineers, and users and investigate current systems and practices as required to map out existing business processes with sufficient understanding and detail as to facilitate their incorporation into new long term business system programs.
  • Software selection: Investigate industry products and recommend software platforms for the required systems. Upon approval of selections by the SEM management team work with university procurement to acquire the software.
  • Implementation: Working with stakeholders, software vendors, consultants, and other resources as required implement the software programs and migrate the corresponding SEM business functions into the new environment.
Physical Requirements*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sitting.
  • Occasionally stand/walk.
  • Rarely writing by hand; lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
