MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Associate degree or certificate of completion in a related engineering or related scientific discipline, or three years of equivalent work experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expertise in mass spectrometry principles and applications for metabolomics and lipidomics, with key analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for QQQ, Q-TOF, ID-X MS systems.
- Experience with data analysis, experimental process, and development of new LC/MS analytical solutions
- Ability to write clear documentation, perform administrative duties, and research protocol maintenance related to research studies and/or scientific/engineering projects.
- Hands-on experience in LC/MS small molecule applications, including method development, quantification, characterization, and structure elucidation.
- Ability to interpret and determine validity of data and check own work.
- Ability to interact, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues in the highly interdisciplinary shared research environment of the Sarafan ChEM-H Knowledge Centers.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Highly preferred: Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or related scientific discipline with 0-2+ years of industry or academic experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, or small molecule LC/MS application space, or MS/BS with 5+ years of solid LC/MS instrumentation and small molecule application experience.
- Expertise in mass spectrometry principles and applications for metabolomics and lipidomics, with key analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for Agilent QQQ, Q-TOF, MSDiQ, and Themo ID-X MS systems.
- Hands-on experience and troubleshooting skills on LC separation techniques (i.e. RP, HILIC)
- Proficiency in performing untargeted and targeted metabolomics and lipidomics data processing, statistical analysis and data interpretation.
- Hands-on experience in various biological sample preparation technique such as PP, LLE, and SPE.
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
- Experience in various LC/MS data processing software such as Agilent MassHunter (i.e. Qual, Quant, Profinder, PCDL, Lipid Annotator, MPP), and Thermo Xcalibur, TraceFinder, Compound Discoverer, and Lipid Search etc.
- Ability to collaborate, communicate and present results to researchers who have little knowledge of mass spectrometry, metabolomics and lipidomics workflow.
Physical requirements*:
- Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
- Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
- Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
- Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
- Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
- Position may require repetitive motion.
