The Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research (BMIR) we develop cutting-edge ways to acquire, represent, and process information about human health. In order to handle the ever increasing amounts of data in healthcare and biomedical research, our faculty, students, and staff investigate and create novel computational, statistical, organizational, and decision-making methods. Our research advances the state of the art in semantic technology, biostatistics, and the modeling of biomedical systems to benefit clinical and translational research as well as patient care.

This position will require work with data and metadata, typically in the biomedical domain. Experience with semantic standards (e.g., OWL, RDF, and SKOS), best practices in linked data and FAIR principles, biomedical data, metadata, ontologies, and their specifications, as well as a strong understanding of data formats such as JSON and YAML is essential. The role also demands proficiency in data analysis tools and languages such as Python and R, along with robust modeling and diagramming skills, including the ability to design data and metadata models.

The successful applicant will have data curation experience, preferably in a biomedical research environment.

Duties include:

Prioritize and extract data from a variety of sources such as notes, survey results, medical reports, and laboratory data, and maintain its accuracy and completeness.
Determine additional data collection and reporting requirements.
Design and customize reports based upon data in the database. Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for utilization of the data.
Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root cause for data problems or justify solutions to be implemented by others.
Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables for publication and presentation.
Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys.
Test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software.
Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in biomedical science, information/library science, or informatics.
Knowledge of ontologies commonly used in biomedicine, Web standards (e.g., OWL, SKOS), and common biomedical laboratory techniques.
Proficiency in data analysis tools and languages such as Python and R. Strong modeling and diagramming skills, including the ability to create detailed data/metadata models.
Good understanding of data formats such as JSON and YAML.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
Excellent writing and analytical skills.
Ability to prioritize workload.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
Occasionally use a telephone.
Rarely writing by hand.

Some work may be performed in a laboratory or field setting.

The expected pay range for this position is $86,000 to $126,000 per annum.
