Housed at Stanford Graduate School of Education, the Stanford Accelerator for Learning is the first university-wide initiative connecting scholars and students across disciplines and with external partners to bridge research, innovation, practice, and policy, and bring quality, scalable and equitable learning experiences to all learners, throughout the lifespan. The Stanford Accelerator for Learning focuses on learning challenges most in need of new discoveries, evidence, and solutions and where we believe Stanford can make the most difference. Those include: adult learning, digital learning, early childhood education and development, equity in learning, learning differences, and policy & system change.

The Stanford Center on Early Childhood seeks a full time Research Coordinator to join our team. The Research Coordinator will work in Dr. Jelena Obradović’s Spark Lab coordinating activities for a new project developing measurements and assessments for children in preschool through grade 2. The Stanford Center on Early Childhood brings new tools and pathways for impact to the places where early childhood development happens–early learning environments, healthcare, and community-based family support programs and services. The Stanford Center on Early Childhood is an initiative of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision of Dr. Michael Sulik and Dr. Jelena Obradović coordinating the project activities, including conducting literature searches and working closely with outside organizations to develop and maintain research-practice partnerships. The person in this role will also work directly with research participants, conducting recruitment activities as well as screening and consenting new participants, leading assessments and focus groups, and managing the logistics of participant participation and incentives. The person in this role should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and community-based research. This role requires strong organizational and analytic skills and an outgoing and enthusiastic personality.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Conduct literature searches and create literature summary spreadsheets and reports, after PI/supervisor outlines conceptual approach.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of research-practice partnerships and relationships with community and educational organizations for the purposes of participant recruitment. 
  • Adapt and create research materials (e.g., educational materials, questionnaires, strategies for recruitment, data quality control procedures and processes, reports). May follow up with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure renewals are approved and completed, seeking guidance where necessary.
  • Assist with screening, recruitment, consent of research participants. Schedule and/or call participants for appointments and explain study procedures to them. Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of study activities. 
  • Following a script, perform telephone or in-person interviews and focus groups and lead assessments of student skills. Maintain accurate electronic data records from these assessments. May transcribe and perform qualitative analysis of interviews and focus groups.
  • Perform basic quantitative data analysis by adapting existing and creating new R data analysis scripts. Summarize results for review with PI/supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data.
  • May orient and train new staff or students.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.

  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human research participants, including children. 

Preferred Education & Experience: 

  • Experience conducting research with young children
  • Experience in the field of developmental psychology
  • Experience in the field of early childhood education 
  • Experience conducting research with diverse populations
  • Experience with R

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be required to work non-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work.

The expected pay range for this position is $31.40 to $34.61 per hour.
