To be successful in this role you must bring:
- Ability to travel to East Coast (Stanford in Washington D.C., etc.) for off campus project management assignments.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations as they apply to projects. In depth working knowledge and understanding of historical preservation and institutional type retrofit projects
- Preferred project experience: o Historical preservation work (wooden windows & associated hardware, sandstone, pavers, integral stucco, red tile roofs, etc.)
- Roofing, waterproofing & building envelope systems o Fire alarm and elevator upgrades
- Electrical system upgrades: including lighting, switchgear, motor control centers, generators, etc.
- Mechanical system upgrades: constant volume w/ reheats, variable air volume terminal boxes, etc.
- Energy Retrofits: direct digital controls upgrades, Phoenix Controls, etc.
- Compressor, deionized water, heating hot water, chilled water and vacuum systems
- Able to work collaboratively with a variety of university organizations and contractors.
- Experience with long range, phased work in occupied buildings. • Experience in sensitive facilities with complicated occupant constraints.
- Demonstrated success as a team member of multiple-discipline groups.
- Knowledge of jurisdictional permitting process, such as city, county, and state building authorities.
- Requires Bachelor’s degree in construction management or technical engineering discipline, plus 5 years work experience in general contracting, facilities renovation and/or maintenance.
- A team player with a positive attitude. Willing to work independently and with others (diverse groups) to problem solve and complete projects on time and within budget. Must have initiative, follow through skills, and a client-service approach.
- Ability to manage special assignments (i.e. development of department benchmark pricing matrix / tool) and programs.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills. Must have a professional demeanor. Must have the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and discretion when working with others.
- In depth knowledge of project management principles, construction practices and methods, building trades and associated terminology, building and fire codes, laboratory design and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) construction requirements. Ability to understand, interpret and apply University and LBRE (Land, Buildings & Real Estate) policies and procedures.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Ability to problem solve. Prepare sketches, develop scopes and accurate cost estimates. Manage projects with emphasis on academic environment, complete understanding of requirements and constraints within academic arena.
- Ability to set and manage priorities to perform in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are critical, and clients are demanding.
- Preferred computer concepts and systems: PlanGrid, Bluebeam Revu, MS Word, MS Excel, Email, MS Project, EAM, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Project Mgt. databases or equivalent systems.
- Share technical knowledge with team members / group.

Physical Requirements*:
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Use a telephone, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds or more.
- Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license.
- Auditory acuity with ability to hear horns and bells.
- Visual acuity with ability to determine colors for finishes.
- Ability to climb scaffolding, ladders, stairs etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May work in active laboratories or outdoor environments.
- May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos
- Ability to access roofs at heights greater than 10 ft.
- May drive vehicle day and night.
- Must wear personal protective equipment as defined/required by job assignments, and dress for clean rooms.
- May work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
