Position Summary:
The Program Manager will report directly to the Associate Director of Development Operations and Strategic Reporting, and work closely with the Director of Major Gifts, a fellow Program Manager, and the entirety of UMG’s Operations team and field staff to help ensure the program runs smoothly, efficiently, and in line with evolving priorities and best practices. They will develop a comprehensive knowledge of the University Major Gifts department and its goals and processes. Projects will be both assigned and of their own design to enhance our major gifts and engagement efforts. Excellent collaboration with team members, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and follow-through is critical for success.

In this role you will:

  • Implement event best practices for UMG by providing training, mentorship, and leadership across our team.

  • Partner with the Director of Major Gifts, regional directors, and school/unit colleagues on scoping events that may be replicated in multiple markets throughout the year; collaborate with regional directors and gifts officers on unique event and engagement strategies for their specific markets.

  • Build and maintain a close partnership with the Development Events team, serving as UMG’s liaison with this essential partner program; collaborate with school and unit colleagues on event partnerships.

  • Assess project support needs and scope roles and responsibilities around event execution, ranging from small events to large-scale events with multiple stakeholders.

  • Support the Director of Major Gifts in coordinating and ensuring continuity across the development activities of the Stanford Open Minds event series, collaborating with the Major Gift regional teams and cross-functional units.

  • Develop expertise in university leadership briefing and trip-planning protocols, and provide team training, mentorship, and leadership, collaborating closely with Principal Gifts.

  • In collaboration with Development Events, manage OOD’s Skybox project leading up to and during football season, providing project management and donor relations expertise.

  • Assist gift officers and regional directors with communications activities to inform strategies and stewardship for donors, prospective donors, and initiatives. Serve as the UMG liaison to the Development Communications and Digital Strategy teams. Work closely with the Director of Major Gifts and regional directors to understand additional development writing needs across the program.

  • In coordination with the central donor relations team, encourage implementation of stewardship best practices across University Major Gifts, partnering closely with the Operations team and fundraisers.

  • Curate content for quarterly outreach messages and other strategic “touchpoints” for gift officers to leverage in their ongoing field work.

  • Support a data-informed team culture by retrieving and synthesizing donor and prospective donor information, generating reports using OOD’s Salesforce database and financial reporting systems, and build expertise in systems used for event communications and marketing tools, such as Cvent and Marketo. Train others on how to use these tools where needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years’ relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
