DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 10+ years of experience in gender equality work within global development, with strong expertise in policy and advocacy efforts, including working with government stakeholders.
• Must have strong relationships working with donors and governments and a track record of building strategic partnerships.
• Significant experience working in or advising programmatic work in Sub-Saharan Africa, preferably in Ethiopia.
• Experience with multilateral organizations, especially in international development.
• Demonstrated success in gender mainstreaming, gender integration and policy and have a demonstrated commitment towards gender equality.
• Demonstrated success in program or project management, managing teams and ensuring goal alignment.
• Demonstrated success in shaping and/or advising policy makers and other state actors in adopting a gender lens.
• Experience working with elected officials at the national or subnational level.
• Significant experience having worked in leadership roles involving policy and advocacy organizations, initiatives or programs requiring communication, analytical and strong leadership and management skills.
• Experience building capacity through curriculum development and delivery.
• Experience developing and implementing monitoring frameworks to track progress towards goals.
• Ability to work in complex teams with flexibility and adaptability to fast paced environments.
• Comfortable in a wide range of cultural, geographic and operational situations, demonstrating culturally sensitive behavior with a diverse range of people.
• Creative problem solver with rigorous approach and aptitude for managing details in fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work in an additional language a plus.
• Experience with program monitoring and evaluation, including the design of tracking systems, development of indicators, and mechanisms to capture change in gender indicators.
• In-depth understanding of international development processes, actors and cultures.
• Expertise in participatory, feminist adult learning training theory and practice.
• Expertise in engaging policy makers and other state actors in gender equality work.
• Significant experience in designing and facilitating interactive meetings, workshops, and trainings.
• Strong understanding of, and personal commitment to, a rights-based approach to gender equality and international development.
• Strong understanding of the international human rights framework for gender equality.
• Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to work amidst ambiguity and thrive in a start-up mode, with initiative and comfort to work with little oversight and with team members in various locations.
• Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally to provide TA, attend meetings and conduct site visits at least 25% of the time.
• Ability to cultivate strong relationships with both colleagues internally and externally in a multiple stakeholder environment.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Advanced degree and five or more years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. Experience developing program partnerships and funding sources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

• Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
• Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
• Ability to oversee and direct staff
• Ability to manage budgets and develop financial plans.


CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
• Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
• Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weight up to 40 pounds.
• Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weight > 40 pounds.
• Ability to use voice to present information/communication with others.
• On-campus mobility.
