Minimum Education and Experience Required
Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in the scientific discipline a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Work at the Life Science Technician II level requires experience and ability beyond that required for the Life Science Technician I, including increased technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- 2 years of Horticulture, greenhouse, or controlled environment agriculture experience
- Drivers License
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and protocols.
- Able to work independently and enjoy hands-on work.
- Able to lift 50lbs and work in prolonged positions such as: standing, sitting, bending stooping, stretching, and kneeling.
- Knowledge in operating basic hand and power tools safely, including landscape and farm equipment.
- Able to work with and around soil, fertilizers, pesticides, plants, and flowers without a negative allergic reaction.
- Able to work in a temperature fluctuating environment and a noisy environment as the facility areas are very loud due to fans and greenhouse equipment.
- Experience with greenhouse controllers such as mechanical controls, Wadsworth, Argus, Priva, Microgrow controllers, and the ability to analyze environmental data.
- Experience with fertigation and irrigation systems, installation, repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to obtain a Ca. Qualified Applicator certification (QAC) is a plus.
- Able to work Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
- Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
- Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds
- Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
- Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
- Position may require repetitive motion.
Working Conditions
Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.
