Job Purpose
Are you an experienced Middleware Application Administrator? Then, you may want to join Stanford's Enterprise Technology team to support the implementation and maintenance of Alumni and Development Applications Platform Transition (ADAPT) program systems and services. In this position, you will provide technical expertise in the setup, configuration, administration, and maintenance of middleware applications and backend systems that support mission-critical resources for Stanford’s Office of Development and Alumni Association. You will support source code deployment and application builds. You will also be responsible for upgrades and patches to the infrastructure components of the ADAPT ecosystem. This will include Oracle-based and legacy technologies such as application servers, database servers, data replication servers, and related tools.

Core Duties
  • Install, configure, upgrade, migrate and automate Application Server and Web Server environments.
  • Build, configure, secure and improve infrastructure server environments for ADAPT applications and systems.
  • Install, configure, and support relational database management systems (RDBMS) and related software.
  • Maintain and monitor highly available databases.
  • Deploy, debug, and support Enterprise Java applications.
  • Provide ongoing system administration and technical infrastructure support.
  • Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.
  • Serve as a technical resource for deployed applications.
  • Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.
  • Follow team software development methodology.
  • Other duties may also be assigned

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Expertise in developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Knowledge of application domain and Java code.
  • Extensive knowledge of systems platform and JVM environments.
  • Extensive experience in programming environments and build tools.
  • You can work independently or as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of new and current technology and trends.
  • You're able to collaborate with vendors and system service providers, provide administration for system solutions, and act as a liaison.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Deep working experience with JBoss EAP 6.x, 7.x in standalone mode and managed domain mode.
  • Experience with HTTP servers and SSL implementation on JBoss EAP.
  • Experience with application server logging subsystem and web components.
  • Experience using application performance monitoring tools such as Dynatrace or similar tools to troubleshoot application related issues.
  • Experience in monitoring and administrating Oracle and/or SQL Server databases.
  • Experience with SQL tools in a Windows server or Linux environment.
  • Experience with Oracle Middleware components desired.
  • Experience with Enterprise scheduling tools and batch automation desired.
  • Experience PowerShell, Python and/or Shell Scripting desired.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and testing practices desired.
  • Knowledge of team collaboration tools such as Confluence, Basecamp, or Sharepoint desired.
  • Knowledge or experience using load balancers such as F5 or NetScaler desired.

Certifications and Licenses
  • MCTS/MCITP certification, a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone.
  • Rarely writing by hand,
  • Lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions
  • May work extended hours and on weekends.
  • Available for on-call work and 24/7 rotational support.
