Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
- Able to stoop, kneel, carry, push and pull, ascend/descend stairs, climb on ladders, climb on roofs, and crawl in confined spaces on a regular basis.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and/or 40 pounds occasionally.
- May be required to work overtime and ability to respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends.
- Required to wear appropriate uniform.
- Works in all types of weather inside and outside.
- Wears respirator and other protective safety equipment and clothing as required and needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge and ability to use and work with various and tools materials found in the work place required to complete the task.
- Ability to work independently, on a crew and/or with little supervision.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints.
- Appropriately follows oral and written directions.
- Ability to install and maintain plumbing equipment, fixtures and appliances.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, fans, and blowers.
- Skilled in electrical systems and equipment.
- Experience working with brass, steel, cast iron, copper, glass and plastic piping.
- Knowledge of building codes in the trade. May be called upon on to help in other trades.
- Capable of learning and applying safe work practices and procedures, including but not limited to: proper use and care of respirators, hazardous waste management and handling, lockout tag out procedures, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Confined Space procedures, CPR, and chemical safe practices.
Qualifications:
- Valid
California driver's license
- Four
years’ experience in the plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and/or general
maintenance trades.
- Must
demonstrate sufficient skill to qualify as a journey-level worker in one of
these trades while at the same time be capable of performing work of moderate
complexity in at least two other trades.
- Experience
in pool facility maintenance desired.
- Must
pass background check.
- CPO/AFO
certification desired.
This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
