Required Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years old
  • A valid California driver's license
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.
  • Ability to work safely
  • Must successfully pass a background check
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency
  • Must pass an aptitude test (math, English and critical thinking) with a score of at least 80%
  • Must be able to work full time and attend evening educational classes
  • Ability to perform assigned work at a level appropriate for a Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice
  • Ability to operate two-way radio for communication
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction 
  • Wear protective equipment and clothing as needed 
  • Ability to learn and apply safe work practices, including but not limited to, hazardous waste management and handling, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Confined Space procedures, and chemical safe practices.
  • Ability to perform various maintenance and moving tasks including, but not limited to, work from step ladders, must be able to lift heavy materials frequently each day, work overhead, kneel, stoop, stand, crawl, or sit for long periods of time, work in all types of weather. 
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls on evenings and weekends. 
  • Willingness to work variable shifts at night or on weekends. 

 

The Apprentice will be paid at the initial hourly rate of $28.32 with an increase at six 6-month intervals if performance and progress in the program are satisfactory.
