MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in health physics, radiation physics, medical physics, nuclear engineering, or related field. Advanced degree and/or certification(s) or experience may be required for some programs. Eight years of applicable experience in health physics and program management performing duties similar to those listed above and or a combination of education and relevant experience.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Advanced level experience designing and managing technical and operational functions of radiation safety and laser safety programs.
  • Expert level knowledge in radiological hazard identification, safety analysis, and dose, shielding, and activation calculation.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiation protection regulations at federal, state and local levels. 
  • Ability to conduct radiation safety risk assessment, mitigation, and crisis management.
  • Extensive experience in the design, development, and optimization of laser safety programs.
  • Research and development skills to improve the methods and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and coaching technical staff and providing safety training to personnel.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences and to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.

 

Additionally, you will also bring:

  • In-depth knowledge on laser safety guidelines as written in ANSI Z136.1.
  • Extensive experience in laser safety programs.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Occasionally stand/walk; frequently sitting; rarely kneel/crawl; occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders; frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation; rarely grasp forcefully; frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, write by hand; rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, scrub/sweep/mop; occasionally operate foot and/or hand controls. 
  • Frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds; rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-40 pounds or more. 
  • Able to wear a respirator and perform duties while wearing. 
  • Auditory acuity to hear clicks and buzzers for detection equipment. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California non-commercial class driver license. Ability to drive day and night.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be exposed to radioactive materials and/or ionizing radiation, Class IIIB or IV lasers, magnetic or electromagnetic fields, and lead.
  • May be exposed to biohazards (urine, blood, feces) while working with patients and/or animals in ER’s, OR’s or IR’s (interventional radiology). Must gown up for sterile environments.
  • May require travel to off campus locations.

The expected pay range for this position is $100,000 to $145,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
