Minimum Education and Experience Required: 
In addition to the qualifications listed for Tech II, the Specialist classification requires:

  • Three years sprinkler/irrigation and landscape experience required or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Sprinkler/Landscaper Specialist has all of the qualifications described in the Sprinkler/Landscape Tech II specification plus the following qualifications:

  • Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
  • Ability to install, design and maintain landscape and irrigation projects from plan development to completion with little or no guidance.
  • Ability to read project plans and estimate materials from plans as needed.
  • Working knowledge of water pressure, hydraulics, high and low flow systems and basic electricity. ∙ Ability to troubleshoot and repair controller, valves, wiring and other computer components involved in  irrigation systems and fountains.
  • Detailed knowledge of the design of irrigation systems in use at Stanford and the capabilities of the components used in these systems.
  • Ability to operate current computer program to obtain work orders.
  • Ability to use various equipment to prepare and recover sites.  
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Demonstrated strong communications skills (both verbal and written). Ability to understand and follow job-related instructions either verbally or in writing.

Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions

  • Required to wear appropriate issued uniform.
  • Ability to work safely in all types of outside weather conditions. 
  • May be required to work overtime, evenings and  weekends, including holidays.
  • Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stop/squat,  kneel/crawl, grasp forcefully and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-20 pounds.  
  • Occasionally perform seated work, use a telephone, reach/work above shoulders, perform work which  require light/fine grasping, and/or lift/carry/push/pull  objects that weigh 10-40 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), perform desk based computer tasks, operate hand and/or foot controls, write by hand and/or sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • May rarely use a jackhammer or trenching machine.
  • Maybe exposed to noise greater than 80db TWA.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

The expected pay for this position is $36.98-44.72 per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
