EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science. Degree must be received or expected no later than June, 2024.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a research team
  • The ability to take initiative and see projects through to completion
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for pursuing graduate studies or a career in social science research

  1. Identify from one to three of the research projects from the IRISS website to which you wish to apply – in order of your preference. You will do this by adding a preference number to your cover letter document titles, with preference 1 being your first choice, then preferences 2 and 3 for your optional two additional project choices.
  2. Cover letters.  Upload separate cover letters for each of the research projects to which you wish to apply. These letters should outline how your academic, personal, and/or professional experiences have prepared you for this research project.  You should describe your interest in the specific faculty project, identify research skills that may be relevant, such as your familiarity with programming languages, and note prior experience, if any, as an undergraduate research assistant and with independent research (e.g., a senior thesis.)

    When uploading these cover letters, please title each with your name, faculty project identification letter, and preference number:  e.g. “LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_PROJ_A_1.” Faculty project descriptions and identification letters can be found on the IRiSS website.
  3. Optional background information.  IRiSS is committed to building a diverse and inclusive research community. If you would like to share additional information about your background, perspectives, or experiences, please attach it as a separate document.
  4. CV (resume).  Include all relevant education, research experience, work experience, and skills.

  6. Optional writing sample.  A paper (or excerpt) that displays your writing and analytic skills and capacity to execute independent research.  Any length is acceptable.

The expected pay for this position is $29.33 per hour.
