IPL Research Program Manager

The Immigration Policy Lab (IPL) at Stanford University evaluates and designs policies surrounding the integration of immigrants and refugees worldwide. By producing new evidence and translating it into creative solutions, we seek to improve refugees’ and immigrants’ opportunities and strengthen their host communities.
Using new data and cutting-edge analytical tools, we bring evidence to bear on the urgent problems facing immigrants, refugees, and their service providers. We engage with community-based organizations as well as local, state, national, and international government agencies to test the effectiveness of current policies. In addition, we co-design new policies, programs, and tools that ultimately affect millions of immigrants, as well as increase the economic and social prosperity of the communities in which they live. Our talented team of faculty, professional staff, postdocs, and students has created a research model that combines the quality and rigor of an academic lab with the efficiency and innovation of a civic-tech startup.
IPL designs, develops, and implements a wide range of research projects across multiple countries. We are looking for a full-time Research Program Manager to further develop, implement, and lead our comprehensive research program focused on refugees, asylum-seekers, and immigrants in the United States. Specifically, the Program Manager would oversee a research portfolio on immigrant health, naturalization, and community sponsorship programs for refugees. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Research Program Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of these research projects, while continuing to expand the research portfolio. While identifying and developing new areas for innovation and collaboration, the Program Manager will play a key role in building and maintaining relationships with the IPL’s external partners, which include governmental and non-governmental agencies. The Program Manager will also be responsible for developing and managing various research protocols, from large-scale field experiments and surveys to administrative data collection and analysis. The Program Manager will work closely with faculty, postdocs, students, and staff to ensure that research is adequately funded and completed effectively and efficiently. As part of our collaborative team, the Research Program Manager can receive co-authorship on papers resulting from projects that she or he manages. We are looking for candidates who have the ability, experience, and energy to manage and continue to grow a diverse research portfolio focused on refugees, asylum-seekers, and immigrants.
This is a one-year fixed term position with possibility of renewal for up to three years.
Your responsibilities include*:
● Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.
● Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
● Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
● Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
● Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
● May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients. Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
● Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.

To be successful in this position you will bring:
● Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
● Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
● Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
● Ability to oversee and direct staff.
● Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
● Advanced degree in relevant field.
● Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations or agencies that serve them.
● Experience managing social science research involving experimental methods and/or managing refugee/asylum-seeker/immigration programs.
● Demonstrated experience handling a multitude of highly detailed and complex tasks.
● Demonstrated ability to engage and interact with diverse research partners (e.g., government agencies, nonprofits, universities).
● Demonstrated interest and experience working in or managing activities on immigrant health, particularly in the U.S.
The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $136,000 per annum.
