DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct experience in a major academic research or healthcare institution, with a thorough understanding of the University environment in contrast to the corporate environment.  This includes understanding how issues of security, privacy, academic freedom, intellectual property, open systems and academic enterprise networks fit into a university backdrop.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing, coordinating and deploying complex technical projects, and in gaining consensus across a disparate variety of stakeholders and goals.
  • Experience with conducting training and developing training.
  • Develop materials to educate the community in understanding and mitigating risks or threats.
  • Proven expertise with Linux and Windows server systems, including configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional customer service and communications skills and experience are critical.  Must be able to provide technical guidance and explain complex technical issues to non-technical audience and work towards consensus on sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex multi-system platforms and vendors and in coordinating multi-system and computing environments in independent computing facilities.
  • Proven ability to develop appropriate plans to meet computing needs.
  • Experience in multiple programming languages on multiple platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead and work on large/complex system deployment projects in a team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of security trends and best practices.
 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree plus five years relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of IT industry trends and emerging technologies and an ability to relate them to Stanford and its objectives.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of networking protocols, principles and devices.
  • In-depth architecture and configuration knowledge.
  • Strong experience with debugging, troubleshooting, forensics, and security utilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of authentication protocols, encryption and other fundamental security technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of industry standard information security practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical ideas to non-technical audience and work with individuals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading/mentoring team members and providing technical guidance to customers and stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity and excellent judgment concerning proprietary and privacy issues.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone, occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21-40 pounds
  • Rarely writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional exposure to high voltage electricity.
  • Occasional extended and weekend hours.

This position currently works in our Porter Drive office. We anticipate that this position will move to the new Stanford Redwood City campus in late May to late June 2019.
