To be successful in this position, you will need:
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant experience
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
- Extensive experience and a solid understanding of GIS applications (such as Python, R, or others).
- Expertise in scripting languages and relational databases applicable to GIS, spatial database, and web mapping application
- Understanding of Web design and visual communication in the context of interactive web maps
- Demonstrated experience with industry standard computer programming languages. Proficient at MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Understanding of topologic types and relationships and database design elements.
- Able to coordinate and execute complex design projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience reading and interpreting maps.
- Possess cartographic aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical and statistical calculations.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
- Able to provide technical leadership and direct the work of others.
- Solid comprehension of coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.
In addition, our preferred requirements include:
- Ability and interest in occasional international travel to work with external partners
- Strong leadership and communication skills to bring diverse, interdisciplinary teams together
- Experience working with community members, diverse stakeholders, and government leaders
- Demonstrated teaching experience—in formal and informal setting
- Great interpersonal skills
