Knowledge / Qualifications
- Knowledge of emergency and back up generation systems
- Troubleshooting skills to test and diagnosed all issues associated with diesel engines
- Knowledge to make repairs to diesel generator systems, including installation of pre-heaters; battery chargers; fuel systems and other related diesel parts.
- Knowledge of diesel control circuits and electrical apparatus specific to the diesel standby system.
- Transports equipment, tools and fluids to and from work sites; operates and maintains equipment, tools and safety devices which are designed to lift, move, transport, repair, inspect, measure and protect.
- General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and repair of diesel electric generating equipment.
- General knowledge of the methods, hazards and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators.
- Knowledge of diesel fuel requirements, including filter change schedules and cleaning/polishing services
- Writing clear and accurate maintenance reports followed by new reactive work orders for any discrepancies found
- Staying current on new power generation technologies and equipment through manufacturers training

- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, service manuals, panels and meters.
- Ability to put theory, experience and training to use in a logical and systematic fashion.
- Ability to deal with problems on a priority basis and investigate all alternatives.
- Ability to maintain adequate records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, technicians and University community.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgements independently within established parameters
- Ability to work well with a skilled team of experienced MEP technicians
- Excellent communication skills, in both verbal and written formats

- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
Desired
- California Hazardous Material License endorsement
- High School or College degree
- Person willing to increase their knowledge and move to high level tech
Requirements
- Valid class C type commercial California driver’s license
- 3 year’s work experience on generators (size 250-2000 KW) or Industrial equipment
- Available for rotating on-call or call back schedule
