Front of House Manager

As part of Stanford Live’s operations team, the Front of House Manager will work closely with leadership to ensure proper staffing, set up and execution of multiple events in multiple venues, while providing a world class experience for all patrons, staff and vendors. The position will run, promote and maintain the outstanding usher program while overseeing the front of house operations for all of Stanford Live’s on-site events.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as manager on duty for all Stanford Live Events at Bing Concert Hall, Frost Amphitheater and other Stanford Live events.
  • Hire, onboard and manage all usher staff for Stanford Live. Approve timecards of usher staff.
  • Book, schedule, and properly manage Stanford Live ushers to ensure events are staffed and run well at all times.
  • Properly train and update the usher manual while running usher training sessions on a bi-yearly basis.
  • Plan and run usher appreciation events as well as end of season parties.
  • Use online tools (Google Drive, ArtsVision, Asana, etc) to distribute and communicate information to the needed staff, patrons and vendors across all venues.
  • Work with venue management and multiple janitorial vendors to ensure the venues are ready for any kind of performance, act or entity.
  • Ensure safety standards of each venue are being communicated and followed by all staff, patrons, vendors, etc.
  • Main public facing contact for all patron related issues - respond to patron complaints and feedback in a timely manner while assisting with customer issues pre, post and during events.
  • Manage lost and found, bag check and other patron related areas.
  • Manage entry process of venues which includes but is not limited to line management, safety searches, ticket operations, and ticket issues as needed.
  • Work with Stanford Live Box Office to ensure that seating inventory is being managed in a way that works for venue operators, patrons and artists.
  • Assist with chair labels and seating configuration changes as needed.
  • Advance, communicate and ensure that all ADA needs of patrons are being met at all Stanford Live venues pre, post and during events.
  • Provide management staff with an in-depth house report after each event.
  • Assist all other venue staff as needed.

 

Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered hybrid with a minimum of 4 days/week onsite depending on events schedule. This position will require working extended and flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays based on event schedule requirements.

 

In order to be successful, you will bring:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. At least one (1) year of management and staffing experience of 20+ people.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management and respond to complaints from customers.
  • Results oriented attitude with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines at one time.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Strong customer service focus with a demonstrated ability and commitment to customer relations.
  • A strong leader with creative and innovative approaches to job related functions and people management.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

 

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Valid California non-commercial driver’s license.
