How you get this job

Meet our basic requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Demonstrate success in:
  • Articulating the mission and the market for every project you work on.
  • Contributing to the design of compelling, engaging websites using industry standard tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Bonus points for fluency in Figma.
  • Implementing graceful, accessible, semantically correct, responsive front ends in ways that function properly in all supported browsers, with all supported screen-readers, on all supported devices. 
  • Using modern technologies and techniques, including ES6, SCSS, mixins, flexbox, CSS grid, aria, mobile first, progressive enhancement, and SMACSS. 
  • Developing designs and implementations than can be reused on multiple projects, possibly by multiple teams.
  • Working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Finding joy in your team’s successes.
  • Offering actionable solutions when you or your teammates encounter obstacles.


Earn bonus points by demonstrating familiarity / expertise with:

  • Bourbon and Neat SASS mixin libraries, git, npm, grunt, webpack.
  • Developing (or customizing) WordPress themes / plugins.
  • Developing effective, responsive email templates.
  • Agile / scrum methodologies.

The Web Communications team is part of University Communications. The mission of the Office of University Communications is to expand global understanding of Stanford’s contributions as one of the world’s leading research universities, where innovative, world-changing research and teaching occur daily. University Communications provides support and campus leadership in planning, coordination and implementing strategic communication programs that support Stanford University and its teaching, research and service missions. University Communications is the central office responsible for supporting executive leadership; university-wide issues and reputation management; crisis communications; oversight of digital content and top-level web and social media platforms; media relations and news services; visual identity and brand management; internal communication to faculty and staff; parent and community communications programs; major publications; and the Stanford Video production studio. University Communications coordinates with communications professionals across the university on communications issues and projects, provides leadership to the Communications Working Group, and advises on communications policy.
