MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of successful and documented experience in exhibition design, preparation, or installation, or related library, museum or archival experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrated understanding of graphic design and exhibition design principles.

• Ability to work around an initial concept for an exhibit and think in terms of broad  solutions working eventually to detailed plans for individual cases.

  • Demonstrated experience with and on-going understanding of software applications relevant to exhibition functions required for core duties.

• Experience working with a content management system for digital assets.

• Ability to present a portfolio that reflects creative work.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and department needs.

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

• Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Strong knowledge in industry standards, trends, and technical knowledge.

• Experience and familiarity with best practices in the handling of library materials in all formats, including Special Collections materials such as rare books, manuscripts, and photographs.

• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator). Willingness to become proficient utilizing Stanford’s Spotlight exhibit software and other web based design software.

 

Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism to interact with a wide range of people at different levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to create metadata, using a variety of standards, for analog, digital and audiovisual materials
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and database management applications.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge of handling and preservation of library materials in all formats, especially Special Collections materials.
  • Knowledge of best practices and standards for metadata creation, especially for digital/digitized and media materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally and the ability to clearly articulate and advocate for the role of the exhibitions program in supporting instruction and research.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.

• Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:

• May work extended or nonstandard hours, weekends and holidays based on needs.

• Occasional local and overnight travel may be required.
