Provide strategy, vision and direction regarding issues and objectives affecting Stanford  Law School’s Office of Admissions. 

Liaise with senior management and cross-functional areas, such as the university’s Office of the General Counsel, to implement this vision and strategy.  Using your broad expertise and law school experience, contribute to the development of university objectives and principles and achieve Law School goals in creative and effective ways.

You will work on significant and unique issues that have  broad ramifications, where analysis of situations or data will require evaluation of intangibles. You will obtain results by using independent judgment regarding  methods, techniques and evaluation criteria. You will create formal networks involving coordination among many groups internal and external to the law school that will be imperative to the mission of our Office of Admissions. 

In this role you will strategically solve problems such as how to recruit a diverse student class in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 

This position reports to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid.  This is a 12-month, fixed-term position with possibility of renewal.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Provide strategic direction for law school admissions, including forecasting, planning, and managing program budgets. Advise the Associate Dean and Dean of SLS on navigating the admissions process through a race-neutral lens.  Advise Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid regarding appropriate and innovative practices for developing admissions outreach activities.  Serve as subject-matter expert when SLS and University leadership seek advice.
  • Identify, clarify, and resolve complex, high-profile issues affecting the Office of Admissions. Develop and implement innovative strategies to increase the outreach, recruitment, and yield of applicants from diverse backgrounds; centralize the work done through SLS Communications and External Relations teams to develop a coordinated approach to outreach strategies; leverage these resources to assist in reaching applicants to allow the Office of Admissions to better discover and meet the needs of these applicants and enrolled students as appropriate.
  • Develop, analyze, implement and oversee programs and tools for delivery of student services or programs. Maintain demographic information for appropriate use during admissions process; stay abreast of California and nationwide trends in the diversity of the legal profession.
  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies within the Law School and the University. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures and implement process improvement for the Office of Admissions.
  • Analyze and interpret admissions/enrollment data to determine and implement data-driven approaches for planning and executing applicant recruitment and yield efforts; regularly collaborate with the Office of General Counsel to ensure compliance with laws related to admissions, influence and define legally compliant SLS admissions policies.
  • Build the Office of Admission’s network of relationships and partnerships with internal and external mentoring programs, professional organizations, and national affinity groups; be the liaison between SLS and similar entities/agencies.   ·     Participate in evaluation and recommendation of technological needs and effectiveness for delivery of student programs and services.  Design and implement innovative strategies to approach enrollment based on the needs of the Office of Admissions and the preferences of SLS leadership.
  • May provide specialized advice to prospective students or student groups.

Minimum Education and Experience Required: 

Juris Doctor and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      Expert communication and facilitation skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.

      Advanced influencing and negotiation skills, with expertise in partnering with senior leaders.

      Strong analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze complex information.

      Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

      Strong project management skills.

      Advanced customer service skills.

      Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

      Knowledge of budgeting and financial management.

      Experience with ensuring and applying compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

      Demonstrated subject matter expertise or advanced education in field of practice.

The expected pay range for this position is $114,000 to $150,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
