To qualify at Software Developer 2 level:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Other Relevant Experience May Include:
- Experience with digital library, digital humanities projects, data analysis, or data transformation
- Experience with visualization, search/browse, geographic information systems, or other discovery interfaces
- Experience with image processing or streaming media
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
- Demonstrated experience in digital library applications or related application domains strongly desired.
- Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
- Ability to facilitate activities on structured team development projects.
- Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Strong knowledge of more than one programming language, including Ruby or JavaScript.
- Understanding of IT security and expertise in proactively applying considerations to all aspects of position.
To qualify at Software Developer 3 level:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Relevant experience must include demonstrated experience with supporting digital library projects or programs, or comparable experience in related sectors or domains.
- Relevant experience may include:
- Experience with digital library, digital humanities projects, data analysis, or data transformation
- Experience with visualization, search/browse, geographic information systems, or other discovery interfaces
- Experience with image processing or streaming media
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and programming tools.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications, including digital library applications.
- Strong understanding of data design, architecture, relational databases, and data modeling.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of software development life cycle and quality control practices.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
- Demonstrated experience leading activities on structured team development projects.
- Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods. Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
- Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:
- May work extended hours, evening and weekends for both project-based work and/or regular, on call operational support.
