Stanford University is seeking candidates for a Development Associate to support the overall athletic fundraising goals of the development department. A Development Associate partners with front-line fundraising staff, donors, volunteers, and other university staff to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with all university constituencies. This is a highly collaborative team looking for a colleague who is motivated, positive, and passionate about college athletics.

Stanford’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) is the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the country. We are the proud Home of Champions! We lead the nation with 138 NCAA championship titles, won the Women’s Capital One Cup four of the last five years, and have brought home the Learfield Director’s Cup 26 times. We support nearly 900 student-athletes who compete on 36 intercollegiate athletics teams and also support the university’s physical education, recreation and wellness initiatives. Housed within Stanford Athletics, the Development Associate is a member of the Office of Development (OOD) which advances Stanford’s mission by raising philanthropic support from alumni, parents, families, friends, and institutional funders. Working in concert with volunteers and university leaders, OOD staff members strive to accelerate Stanford’s purposeful impact in the world. Position Summary
The Development Associate will provide support for athletic fundraising programs and activities. The incumbent will work closely with fundraisers, donors, volunteers, and other university staff to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships and fundraising efforts. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong belief in the importance of philanthropy, a passion for college athletics, a willingness to jump in and learn new processes and systems, and the ability to collaborate.

In this role you will: 

  • Retrieve information about prospects and donors, update records, and generate reports using the university external relations database.
  • Provide volunteer board support by assisting with meeting logistics and planning, as well as managing the volunteer management system for the Buck/Cardinal Club Board.
  • Serve as the liaison with the athletics ticket office and manage and track donor ticketing needs in support of the athletics development team.
  • Process gifts and pledges made to support DAPER in concert with the university’s gift processing unit; troubleshoot gift and payment issues, ensuring accurate donor record keeping.
  • Track budget(s) and complete expense requests and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and send communications via Marketo.
  • Maintain and organize Excel worksheets, as well as perform Excel functions to synthesize data, and create charts and graphs. 
  • Assist in planning and implementing donor cultivation and stewardship, alumni, and special recognition events, and volunteer boards as needed.
  • Provide event support, including but not limited to preparing name badges and signage, assisting with event registration and confirmations, and providing on-site assistance with check-ins, equipment setup, and clean-up.  
  • Regularly attend home athletic events to serve as an ambassador for the Stanford Athletics Development team.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.
     

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency with database systems, such as Salesforce. Ability to acquire proficiency in Stanford information and financial systems.
  • Strong data analysis skills including experience gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and communicating/presenting results and recommendations in a succinct fashion to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work efficiently, juggle tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and achieve goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with a wide range of people, both internal and external constituents.
  • Outstanding communication skills and exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies and effectively develop relationships that enhance overall fundraising goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise discretion in working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with intercollegiate athletics and/or fundraising in a higher education environment is desirable.

 

The main work location for this position is Stanford University historical campus.

The expected pay range for this position is $89,825 to $101,335 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.



Working Conditions:

  • Occasional work on weekends and evenings, including but not limited to all home football games, some men’s and women’s basketball games, and other special events.

Physical Requirement*:

  • Occasionally stand/walk, light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand;
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks; frequently sitting; frequently use a telephone;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.
