DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

 

One year previous custodial experience preferred or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English; ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively with co-workers, guests, other departments, and management. 

·         Knowledge of cleaning and waxing methods, materials and equipment used in industrial cleaning is desirable, but may be learned on the job. 

·         Knowledge of custodial safety procedures. 

·         Ability to read, understand, properly prepare, store, and use all chemicals and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) manual on cleaning chemicals. 

·         Ability to learn and apply safe work practices, including hazardous waste management and handling, injury and illness prevention program, confined space procedures, and safe chemical practices.  

·         Demonstrated ability to provide a positive service attitude and approach to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the university.  

·         Ability to be respectful of residents and co-worker’s privacy and property. Ability to maintain and support a respectful workplace. 

·         Ability to respond to rapidly changing priorities.

·         Ability to operate appropriate communications equipment.

 

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

 

Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.

·         Ability to climb and work from step ladders up to six feet.

·         Constantly stand/walk, twist/bend/stop/squat, perform work which requires light/fine grasping.

·         Frequently, reach/work above shoulders, use a telephone, write by hand, grasp forcefully, scrub/sweep/mop/rake, operate hand controls, and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

·         Occasionally, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-40 pounds. 

·         Rarely perform seated work, desk-based computer tasks, and/or sort/file paperwork or parts.

Additional PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • May be required to lift moderately heavy items, ranging from 25 to 50 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

·         May be required to work variable shifts, days of week, overtime, in various locations, evenings and weekends, including holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. 

·         High exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust and/or other allergens. May work in confined spaces.

·         Required to wear issued and appropriate uniform. 

·         Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 

·         Required to become a mandatory reporter.

 

Additional WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

·       Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials.

·       Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures.

·         When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

·         Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.

·         Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.

The expected pay range for this position is $27.05 (Step 1) to $32.69 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
