MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

An advanced degree plus seven years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Significant experience as an end-user of Linux based systems

  • Experience and ease with installing and using R packages, open source software, Python, Jupyter, conda/anaconda

  • Experience using a cluster computing environment, including job scheduling with SLURM

  • Coding experience, especially with Python, C++, R and various shells

  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills. Ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively with othersAbility to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • Basic data compilation and analysis skills for reporting

 

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience with creating and using container with Singularity/Apptainer

  • Experience with academic research, ideally as a member of a research team

  • Subject-matter expertise in one or more research domains and/or high-end computing resources

  • Experience using and supporting Matlab

  • Experience developing data analysis pipelines in high level scripting languages

  • Experience using GitHub, traditional parallel programming tools such as OpenMP and MPI, and modern APIs such as TensorFlow and Kokkos

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Almost constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds
  • Rarely writing by hand, use a telephone
  • Ability to meet in-person with colleagues and research teams at Stanford research sites or on the Stanford campus on a regular basis

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional extended hours and weekends
  • Occasional overnight travel
  • Rotating on-call responsibilities during Stanford’s annual winter closure and other extended breaks

 

WORK STANDARDS:

  • Team focus: While job activities are generally defined, all team members must demonstrate the ability to pivot and alter actions, activities and areas of focus as team needs require. This may require additional off-hours work on occasion or re-prioritization, in coordination with management. All team members are expected to participate in onboarding and orienting new team members.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations
  • Promote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned
  • Independence and role: Recognizes that while the role requires significant independent decision-making, there are management engagement, authorization and approval processes. That is, this is not a fully autonomous role
