The Stanford Law School Office of Communications is seeking a communications professional to support our publications and media/social media teams. The position offers an opportunity to participate in and be a part of a broad communications effort.

 

The Communications and Public Relations team supports the law school’s teaching and research mission by engaging effectively with our various constituencies, highlighting and raising the visibility of the school and its strengths, differentiating Stanford Law from its peers, promoting faculty scholarship and opinion and extending its reach and impact so that Stanford Law School can continue to attract and retain top talent (faculty, staff and students).

 

Description:

The Stanford Law School Office of Communications and Public Relations produces a range of print and online content, including the law school alumni magazine, Stanford Lawyer and Stanford Legal podcast. This position will be responsible for research and fact-checking, copyediting, proofreading, project management, and writing. The role also encompasses website editing, publishing, and proofreading. In addition, this position will work closely with the Publications team to manage mailing lists, alumni information and mailings, asset management and other content, utilizing project management tools.

 

Skills and Qualifications Overview:

Strong English grammar skills are mandatory. Writing skills are essential, as are organizational skills and attention to detail. General office skills are also important. A working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) the following would also be helpful: InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress, and Mailchimp.

 

Key Responsibilities

      Research, write, and edit publications for style and substance. Strategic Writing: Responsible for producing a wide range of concise, standardized communications content, from engaging short-form content to web, newsletter, and promotional copy.

      Review contents to be disseminated through websites and print publications in consultation with supervisor.  Advanced Fact-Checking & Documentation: Rigorously fact-check content with strong attention to our style guide, accuracy,and detail. Maintain a centralized "Source Library" in Google Sheets or Drive, ensuring every claim in our public-facing content is backed by verified, organized evidence.

      Edit communications for cotent, style, and organization.

      Editorial Workflow Management: Check editorials for accuracy, and use own judgment in critiquing the work. Help to manage the editorial calendar. You will be responsible for tracking the status of all active projects, ensuring that drafts move through the pipeline on schedule. Monitor process in consultation with supervisor

      Version Control & Archiving: Manage the lifecycle of documents within Google Docs, utilizing naming conventions and folder structures to ensure the team always has access to the "Final-Final" version.

      Alumni Tracking: Serve as the main point of contact for daily collection of alumni news and the population of relevant databases.  Manage photography, art, development, designers, videographers for each alumni magazine and additional content.

      Project Coordination: Act as the bridge between departments (e.g., Design, Legal, and Marketing) to gather information and approvals, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned.

Qualifications & Skills Details:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      Demonstrated understanding of the principles, terminology, procedures, and best practices of communications, public relations, and editorial content.

      Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop sources for features, news release, bulletin, etc.

      Experience conducting source-gathering, interview administration, and performing research for appropriate contents and media.

      Considerable experience editing manuscripts for form, content, style, and organization.

      Demonstrated ability to collaborate and advise SME on effective writing, publication, and information-giving techniques to reach target audiences.

      Demonstrated experience of job-required software applications.

      Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

*The expected pay range for this position is $43.19 to $51.76 per hour.

 

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
