MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- BA in a related field.
- 2 years of related practical experience in museum collections or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Preference given to a degree in museum studies, conservation, archaeology, anthropology, or a related field, as well as to collections-based training (example, participation in an MA and/or certificate program in museums) or the equivalent experience with material culture collections.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of professional museum practices including registration methods, safe object handling and art preservation, packing and shipping, insurance, storage of art, security measures, and object numbering techniques.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skill using collection management databases, FileMaker security measures, Microsoft Word and Excel; experience working with Museum electronic databases is strongly desired.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to work well under pressure with a wide variety of museum professionals, vendors, students, docents, and other.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A proven interest in conservation, collections management, museum studies, or related professions.
- Ability to adopt best practice standards for assessing, handling, and moving collections objects.
- Scrupulous attention to detail and ability to maintain data standards.
- Ability to approach tasks systematically.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel.
- Ability to work standing up for long periods of time, bend, stretch, lift 30 pounds, climb up and down ladders, and work with historic cultural items using standard protective equipment.
- Prior experience in museum collections preferred, such as working with established collections management principles and techniques, conservation, registration documentation, accession records, object numbering, rehousing, and/or cataloging standards.
- Knowledge of preservation issues in cultural institutions preferred.
- Knowledge of cultural heritage collections (archaeology/ethnography) and issues preferred, including indigenous cultural collections.
- Knowledge of PastPerfect or other collections management system preferred.

Physical Requirements*
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, seated work, and use light/fine grasping.
- Frequently perform work under bright lights, work under magnification.
- Stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push/pull objects that weigh up to 30 pounds. May be required to lift/carry/push/pull heavier objects up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions
