The Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDOR) provides guidance and support to facilitate, nurture and safeguard a thriving research ecosystem at Stanford. To this end, the VPDOR assumes dual roles. As Cognizant Dean for the independent academic units, the VPDOR oversees the program scope and resources for the sixteen multi-disciplinary and independent laboratories, centers, and institutes which operate outside of the schools’ boundaries. As Vice Provost and the University’s Chief Research Officer, the VPDOR recommends and promulgates new policy and oversees its implementation; manages the mission-support offices that provide services of research compliance and administration, health and safety, and technology transfer to Stanford’s research enterprise; advises the President and Provost in a broad array of academic issues pertaining to and beyond research.

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Specialist in Conflict of Interest (COI) Management. The Specialist will report to the Director of COI/COC within the Research Policy and Integrity unit in VPDoR, with direction from the Director, working closely with faculty leaders, faculty and researchers, senior staff from various campus offices, and research sponsors. This position will be a subject matter expert in the strategic development and ongoing use and training of the OPACS system used for faculty and staff disclosures, prior approvals, reviews, management and monitoring activities across the University in addition to conducting triage and COI assessments.
The COI/COC Specialist will serve an important role in facilitating compliance with university policies and procedures and federal requirements related to conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, and will assist the Director in these areas in assessing COI/COC disclosures, supporting a Central COI committee by preparing review packets, communications and recommend management strategies for significant conflict situations and engage in ongoing monitoring and oversight of management plans for VPDoR.
This position will be based on Stanford's main campus and will be considered for an option of hybrid or remote work arrangement, subject to operational need.
CORE DUTIES:
Filing Electronic FCOI reports as required by federal sponsors.
Reviewing COI/COC Disclosures for triage purposes relative to administrative actions vs. committee submissions.
Provide support for the COI/COC committee
Developing COI/COC & OPACS training and outreach materials and participating in campus-wide educational efforts.
Editing content on VPDOR’s web pages to keep material current and accurate.
Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments via the Federal Register, federal agency export control websites, and higher education interest group newsletters and emails.
Responding to faculty, staff and student requests for general COI/COC compliance
Serve as the OPACS system expert and liaison with the UIT development team to implement upgrades, strategic initiatives and prepare and delivering reports on COI/COC metrics
Service Now trouble shooting for non-technical aspects of the OPACS system
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in performing COI assessments, creating management plans and supporting COI committee work
Knowledge of the OPACS system
Experience in sponsored research administration and a demonstrated ability to work successfully with researchers, students, and administrators in a university environment.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Analytical skills, good judgement and interpersonal skills in complex situations to apply effective problem-solving techniques
Manage confidential and private information in a sensitive manner
Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $78,831 to $125,134 per annum for remote positions. The expected pay range for this position is $116,849 to $148,275 per annum for on-site/hybrid positions.
