DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five years of relevant experience.
  • Previous Supervisory Experience in a fast-paced environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Processes.
  • Experience working a laboratory or industrial environment preferred.
  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences certification as Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) level or higher.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree in Veterinary or Animal Science and three years of supervisory experience in a biomedical research animal facility or a combination of education and experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles, with an active role in employee management and development.
  • Familiarity with animal husbandry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures for the various species of animals used in biomedical research; USDA health and welfare standards; special handling techniques for biohazard, radioactive, or infectious materials; and standards outlined in the National Institutes of Health Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  •  Frequently use a computer, stand/walk on hard surfaces, operate cage washing equipment.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), grasp lightly/fine manipulation, writing by hand, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate foot and/or hand controls.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty and odorous environment.
  • Must be free of animal related allergies.

Additional PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive travel between facilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  •  Occasional overtime, including weekends and holidays. Variable hours depending on the current needs of the unit. Lunch hours may vary and will be established per the needs of the unit.
  • Work schedule is subject to change with prior notification.
  • Restricted time off or vacation during peak business cycles.
  • Work occurs in a secured facility, in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
  • May require working with or being in areas where hazardous materials, animal allergens and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Specific hazards include, but are not limited to: zoonosis, chemicals, pesticides, and solvents.
  • Must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing, and gloves; may require use of a respirator.

Additional WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Workday begins between 6:30-7AM, Monday-Friday.

The expected pay range for this position is $45.26 to $55.46 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
