The Haas Center seeks an early career professional who is passionate about engaging students in public service.  The Cardinal Commitment Coordinator is a core member of the Cardinal Commitment team at the Haas Center.  Cardinal Commitment programs engage Stanford students in making and sustaining a long-term service commitment to a program or organization. The Cardinal Commitment Coordinator is primarily responsible for supporting core administrative functions of the Cardinal Commitment program, assisting the Cardinal Commitment Program Director and advising student public service organizations.  The Coordinator conducts campus-wide outreach activities, plans and implements events, and advises students on how to make long-term service a distinctive feature of their Stanford experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee, review and administer student participation records in the Cardinal Commitment database, by analyzing participation dates, student participation goals and placement organizations, counseling students and providing recommendations on principles and resources influencing their public service.

  • Develop recommendations and collaborate with Cardinal Commitment staff, faculty and partnering offices to resolve programmatic issues within the Haas Center and across functional units, (such as strategizing to ensure optimal enrollment).

  • Provide advice to students and student groups on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, policies, opportunities, and challenges associated with running a public service group and events, particularly as relates to participation in Cardinal Commitment etc., to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions.

  • Apprise students of Cardinal Commitment programs, opportunities, training, funding and other resources. Participate in related student recruitment and selection.

  • Develop, analyze, influence and review, Cardinal Commitment policies and processes by incorporating feedback and trend data learned from first-line interactions with students. Advise Cardinal Commitment manager and team on policy updates and provide recommendation for implementation of changes.

  • Develop and facilitate training for student groups participating in public service activities, particularly the Principles of Ethical and Effective Service, Working with Minors and various leadership topics.

  • Independently manage logistical and administrative details of Cardinal Commitment events from concept to actualization.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Basic analysis and problem solving skills.

  • Customer service skills.

  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

  • Understanding of financial transactions.

  • Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.


In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • College experience in student organization, student government, or comparable service engagement.

  • Public service or related experience.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to work some weekend and evening hours.

  • Experience engaging with diverse student audiences (e.g. new students, diverse majors, Greek organizations, athletes, community centers, student groups, etc.)

  • Knowledge of Cardinal Service and Stanford student life.
