Qualifications

A model record of integrity.

An advanced degree in law, science, engineering, medicine, finance, business, or public policy.

At least 10 years of experience in a complex research and/or regulatory environment.

Experience in research compliance, administration, and program development and implementation.

Knowledge of federal regulations.

Ability to interpret and explain federal regulations to a broad range of audiences within the University.

Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, and conflict management skills.

Ability to work with faculty.

Proven background as an effective manager.

Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.

Ability to develop educational programs for faculty and staff.

Demonstrated experience at building consensus among diverse constituencies.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and confidentially with difficult situations and with individuals who serve in a broad range of positions within the academic hierarchy.

(Preferred): Expertise in export compliance, foreign engagement, conflict of interest, research data privacy, and/or industrial research contracts.

About the Office of the Dean of Research

The Office of the VPDoR is directed by the Vice Provost and Dean of Research and oversees Stanford University’s research, research policies and interdisciplinary programs. The VPDoR office provides oversight for 20 independent labs, institutes and centers, including physical and biological sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities disciplines, three shared equipment facilities and the offices of Technology Licensing, Environmental Health and Safety, Research Compliance, International Affairs, and Science Outreach and has a consolidated budget of $245M.
