The Director of Financial Aid of the Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks an Associate Director of Financial Aid.  In supporting the Director of Financial Aid to manage funding programs and operations this role provides an opportunity to make substantial contributions to the success of the organization.  The Associate Director will work closely with MBA, MSx, and PhD programs to develop financial aid guidelines and administer, assign, and reconcile over $50 million in federal loans, private loans, and fellowship funding.  You will collaborate with office leadership to design and manage institutional aid strategy by analyzing data to inform decisions and developing metrics and reporting. You will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including student groups, faculty and staff across campus, and external partners.  You will identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.  The Associate Director role will provide opportunities to grow as a professional and exercise your skills and experience on a high-performing team.

 
 
Your primary responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the GSB’s student loan program to include responsibility for awarding, disbursing, and reconciling federal and private loan funds.  Maintaining relationships with lenders and educating students on borrowing options is a core aspect of this function.  
  • Oversee the GSB’s loan forgiveness program to include counseling alumni on eligibility requirements, performing complex calculations, and disbursing payments. 
  • Interpret Federal and University policy to guide daily work as well as resolve complex issues including professional judgment. 
  • Partner with technical and department staff to develop technology infrastructure, which delivers enhanced student and staff experience, operational efficiency, and analytics.
  • Contribute to analysis of financial aid programs and recommendations for future programs.  
  • Counsel current and prospective students on a range of issues including financial aid programs, eligibility, and policy in order to assist them in making informed decisions.   
  • Be flexible to completing any other additional assigned duties.


To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience which may include financial aid, higher education, and/or financial management .
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to process and reconcile complex financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and University policies and external regulations.
  • Advanced computer skills/relevant technology experience, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.  Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft is a plus.
  • Understanding of underlying technological needs and requirements.
  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

In addition, our preferred requirements include:

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience in financial aid, higher education, and/or financial management
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends occasionally.
