To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Education & Experience:
- A bachelor's degree and five years of relevant emergency communications, PIO, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span organizational boundaries.
- Excellent written communication skills, outstanding research and analytical skills, and conceptual editing, copy editing, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent demonstrated writing skills, including news and feature-writing.
- Demonstrated ability to independently synthesize complex material quickly and produce high-quality, succinctly written copy under extreme deadline pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to interact, frequently and effectively, with senior leaders.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
- Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications.
- Experience analyzing situations and giving sound professional judgment on news value, strategic communications, public opinion, and media relations.
- A commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
In addition, our preferred requirements include:
- Working knowledge or certification of Incident Command Systems including the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS), National Incident Management System (NIMS) or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
- Certified Business Continuity Planner
- Background in higher education
- A project management background is a plus.
