Qualifications and Characteristics 

The successful candidate for AVP for the Arts will possess many of the following qualifications and characteristics: 
  • Demonstrated leadership skill in a highly complex, matrixed environment, preferably in higher education. 
  • Track record of success in developing and executing high-impact programs. 
  • Demonstrated success in leading large, diverse functions, strategic analysis, decision-making, planning, and accomplishment of goals and tactical agendas. 
  • Advanced understanding of the educational mission of a top research university. 
  • Excellent oral and written skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaboration. 
  • Experience working with a wide array of stakeholders preferred, including faculty, students, donors, staff, and external partners. 
  • Successful track-record managing diverse teams. 
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic working environment. 
  • Advanced degree desired, preferably terminal degree in the arts or related field.
Location 

Located 35 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose, Stanford University is in the heart of Northern California’s dynamic Silicon Valley. To the west of the University’s 8,180-acre campus are the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and to the east San Francisco Bay. Known as The Peninsula, the area is rich in natural beauty, culture, and entertainment.
