To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Experience in staff positions or government relations work focusing on the federal government.

  • Extensive knowledge of the issues facing the higher education sector in general, and research universities in particular.  Specific background of the issues related to scientific research, health care delivery and finance, tax-exempt organizations and post-secondary education policy is preferred.

  • Excellent judgment and deep knowledge of the political process at the federal level.

  • Superb written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with policymakers, their staff, and members of the Stanford community.

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to diplomatically solve problems and build key relationships.

  • Willingness and ability to travel between the San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, DC.

  • Experience on Capitol Hill with working knowledge of the political system and political process at the federal, state and local levels in a related science, technology, or higher education policy.

  • Demonstrate a high level of judgment, analytical and conceptual skills.
