Requirements:

Minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory animal facility and training equivalent to AALAS Technologist certification. Associate’s degree and AALAS certification preferred. Familiarity with OLAW and U.S.D.A. guidelines required, as is experience with the use and maintenance of large animal facility related machinery. Must possess the skill and ability to troubleshoot a wide variety of technical equipment and systems, or the demonstrated ability to become quickly trained and proficient in new technologies. Strong computer skills with a demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Office and email applications are required. Prefer experience working with a web-based applications such as inventory management. Must be able to work independently as well as on a team, and possess a strong sense of personal accountability and reliability. Must be able to manage multiple competing priorities while under tight timelines. Must have mechanical ability, manual dexterity, and personal standards of cleanliness, neatness and organizational skills. Must be able to read, write, understand, communicate and follow written and oral instructions provided in English. Ability to establish productive relationships within a diverse research community that reflects a strong “client service” commitment is essential. The Animal Care Assistant IV will complete an Occupational Health Surveillance Questionnaire and may be required to undergo a physical examination and immunizations. Must comply with governmental regulations and University policies regarding health and safety and observe and support good health and safety practices. Must be capable of properly handling and restraining all species of common laboratory animals, have no abnormal fear of any common laboratory species and should be free of animal-related allergies. A valid California Driver’s License is required.
