The animal care assistant must have three years of applicable animal care experience in a research or animal laboratory setting; prefer certification at the AALAS technician level or equivalent training; familiarity with OLAW and U.S.D.A. guidelines. Must possess mechanical ability, manual dexterity, and personal standards of cleanliness, neatness and organizational ability. Must be able to read, write, understand, communicate and follow written and oral instructions provided in English. Must be capable of properly handling and restraining all species of common laboratory animals, have no abnormal fear of any common laboratory species and should be free of animal-related allergies. The animal care assistant will complete an Occupational Health Surveillance Questionnaire and may be required to undergo a physical examination and immunizations. Must comply with governmental regulations and University policies regarding health and safety and observe and support good health and safety practices.
